What does a Missional Lifestyle look like?

May 14, 2009

Missional Living Is Unmistakable

The military is full of what’s known as “cultural Christians.” They have been to church; they have said a prayer; they have been baptized; they own a Bible. But apart from these few truths, no one would ever mistake them for a disciple of Jesus Christ.

So as a man who has been bought, redeemed, forgiven, and then given a mission, what does it look like to be a missional believer while serving in a job where you can’t call in sick if you have a migraine, take vacation whenever you feel like it, walk in and give your two-week notice, and are surrounded by enough porn to be considered on par with Primetime TV?

25 Things I hate about FaceBook

March 6, 2009

Sometimes I am quite vexed when I visit FaceBook, while other times I enjoy it. Check out this video. It made me chuckle a time or two.

How do you feel about FaceBook?

Walmart: the big, bad wolf?

February 9, 2009

walmart1

I have always been very skeptical about shopping at Walmart. It seems like they are trying to be number one and are willing to crush any competition hindering them from getting there. If there is a Target around I would go there over a Walmart any day of the week, even if it means that I have to drive farther to get there.

All of this may change after reading this article by Charles Platt, former senior writer for Wired magazine, in the New York Post. He went undercover as an employee  to see if he could figure out this retail giant’s game. He came out fairly pleased at what he learned.

How about you? Do you feel the same way that I did about Walmart? Does this article change your mind?

23 week old baby = Trash?

February 5, 2009

Abortion and Infanticide suck. I’m livid after reading this, and I imagine God is angrier than I am. But he is also merciful, which is why Dr. Pierre Jean-Jacque Renelique has not been wiped off the face of the earth.  I suppose the same goes for each one of us. Praise God for his great mercy! Watch the Super Bowl to the Glory of God

February 1, 2009

Is this possible? Erik, The Irish Calvinist, thinks so. And I agree with him. Read his article here.

I Corinthians 10:31:

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

Not For Sale

January 31, 2009

Every month Christian Audio gives away a free audiobook. This month’s book, by David Batstone, is entitled Not For Sale: The Return of the Global Slave Trade and How We can Fight It.

You can download the book for free here. Enter the code FEB2009 during the checkout process to download it for free.

Maybe you didn’t know: 27 million people are enslaved today; 800,000 people are trafficked (bought & sold) across international borders each year; 50% of these victims are children; 4 of 5 are female; and 150,000 slaves are in our own backyards!

Mark Driscoll on ABC Nightline

January 28, 2009

I think the interview was fair to Pastor Mark and Mars Hill Church. Sure, there are probably some things I would have liked a little more time on (e.g. the whole “Calvinism” bit being cut short right when it started to get good), but it was a great interview overall.

I admire Mark Driscoll for his interaction with culture and for his unwavering love and devotion to the Word of God.  I pray that God will guard him and make him fruitful, for God’s glory, in Seattle and around the world.

Be Courageous, Mr. President

January 26, 2009

This past weekend, Pastor John Piper blessed my heart as he spoke to the people of Bethlehem Baptist Church on Sanctity of Life weekend. He gave a sermon entitled The Baby in My Womb Leaped for Joy.  Here is an excerpt where he speaks to our President for a few intense moments:

May we be Christ-like as we pray for our President, Barack H. Obama.  May we be bold and wise as we fight against the things in our culture and society that our God hates.
